Sight Word Challenge

Well I wanted to challenge myself to try new sight word activities this week. I still have one more day but I believe I can do it! I am introducing 3 sight word to work on throughout the week.  Tuesday, we built our sight words with LEGOS.  The kids love anytime I pull out the LEGOs!
Wednesday, the 1st and 2nd grade leveled readers built sight words with scrabble tiles and added their values to find the highest value.  This activity was introduced so that this could eventually be a center.
The kinder group wrote sight words in sand tray and then I had a sentence strip with sight words for them to read and add words to complete their sentence.

This was good practice for reading a chart using sight words and CVC words the next day.  Today was definitely a favorite.  I had asked the students what the sight words we have been working on and how we spell them.  I wrote the letters on pieces of construction paper. Then for the 2 upper reading levels I put all the letters on the carpet.  Students took turns organizing the letters to spell all the sight words.  I timed them to see had the best time.  They loved the competition.  The kinder group I put all the letters out but had them spell just one of the sight words.  (I didn't want to overwhelm them)
After this activity, I had them order letters and take pictures to make a sight word book and Power Point.

Tomorrow we will look at a Power Point of sight word pictures taken today and students will take a little spelling test on the words we have worked on.  I hope you found my challenge useful to you in some way. Have a great weekend!! I have linked up at
